wedding memories

I've had some requests for pictures of Jim and me so here you go.

Jim and I recently celebrated our anniversary so for family home evening we decided to show our wedding video to the kids. They thought it was great fun to watch Mommy and Daddy when we were so young. I was enjoying their reactions until Jimmy said that I looked fat – thank you Jimmy! But I guess he made up for it later when he said that I looked beautiful in my wedding dress. Afterward we talked about the temple and then we had “wedding cupcakes” (Ben called them puffcakes) for the treat. As I watched my boys stuff their mouths full of cupcakes I realized that they have absolutely no manners at all – where did I go wrong!?

It was fun taking a trip down memory lane. Jim and I lived in the same apartment complex in Provo while we were both attending BYU. Before I dated Jim I actually dated his friend Joel. When Joel and I broke up Jim and I really became good friends. I started to like him a lot. I even started studying in the engineering building (even though my major was Marriage, Family and Human Development) in the hopes that he would come out of the “geek lab” and talk to me. I know it’s pretty pathetic but it worked because every time I was there he would come hang out with me. Needless to say, I didn’t get much studying done. When things were going really good his friend threw me in for a loop by asking me out. I was like, Oh crap! (Sorry Matt). But I went out with him and I was thinking about Jim the whole time and I think my date knew it (sorry again Matt). Luckily Jim had no reservations about dating the same girls his friends have dated because he asked me out a week after that. It was kind of awkward when we moved from just friends to officially dating. I have his friends to thank for that because they all had bets going about when Jim was going to kiss me. I guess this gave Jim some anxiety because he certainly took his time, but eventually we had our first kiss and then it stopped being so awkward and we were really enjoying our time together.

About a month or so after we had our first kiss Jim’s dad created yet another awkward moment by sitting us both down and bringing up the “M” word. I have Craig to thank for what turned out to be one of the most humiliating and awkward moments of my life, but I guess it turned out to be a good thing because it got us moving in the right direction. Jim ended up proposing to me a couple months after that. He asked me to marry him while we were riding in a carriage through temple square – very romantic!

It has been an amazing 6 years with Jim. He is above and beyond the best husband that I could ever ask for! He is the best daddy to our kids and he is my very best friend! I know I am getting kid of sappy but I want him to know how much I love and appreciate him. I look forward to a lifetime of many more funny, happy, sad, exciting, emotional and spiritual memories and spending forever by his side!

the funny things kids say and do

A few days ago at dinner time Jimmy was eating so much food I asked him if he had a hollow leg. He just looked at me kind of funny and went about eating. Today he was taking a drink of water and he started choking. He looked up at me and said, "it went down the wrong tube and into my leg!" He believes everything we tell him and he takes it very literally!

The other day I was at the computer trying to set up my blog and I was totally oblivious to everything that was going on around me. Little did I know that Ben was right behind me removing the screws to the tops of my dining room chairs. I finally realized what was going on but by that time the screws were nowhere to be found. I asked Ben where the screws were. He said, "gone." I asked him where they went. He said, "in the tiger." I asked him where the tiger is. He said, "in the screws." We went back and forth like this a little bit. I even tried to go on a tiger hunt with him. We went all over the house and outside too but we never found the tiger. So I still don't know where the screws went. Oh well, I'm sure they will turn up soon. Blogging is not only addictive but it is becoming hazardous for my family too!

spring has sprung

Isn't it funny how kids love to repeat things over and over again. I think that moms (and dad's - however Jim is still working on this) develop a talent to read a book or sing a song hundreds of times and still be as excited as you were the first time you did. This past week every time we get in the car to drive somewhere Jimmy will point out all of the blossoming trees. This is how the conversation always goes, never a variation:
Jimmy: I see popcorn blossoms!
Me: I see them to.
Jimmy: Does that remind you of a song?
Me: Yes it does.
Jimmy: Me too! Let's sing it!
And we will proceed to sing Popcorn Popping for about the hundredth time this week. I am having a hard time being annoyed though because it is so cute when they sing it or maybe it is just the fact that I am so happy that spring is finally here!

Here is a video of the kids singing popcorn popping. (It took forever to upload so I hope it works.)

we have now entered the 21st century

Well, the Ostler family has finally entered the blogging world and we are trying to keep up with the 21st century! It will be a great way of keeping in touch with friends and family since we are a family that can't seem to stay in one place for more than a couple of years. In the six years that we have been married we have moved 5 times and in August it will be 6. We have also had three kids in 6 years. Yes, we have been busy! Three boys who keep us moving from early morning till night (and often times in the middle of the night).

Jimmy is 4 years old. He is the most curious kid I have ever met - full of energy and lots of questions. I think I hear the word “why” about 50 times a day. He loves to have his hands into everything as you can see.

Ben is 2 years old. He loves to copy EVERYTHING that his brother says and does, which is sometimes good and sometimes bad. He loves backrubs and his monster trucks. He is sometimes like the girl that we will probably never have because he whines A LOT. Who needs a girl right?
Luke is 8 months old. He is a sweet and happy baby. I can see that he has the same curious tendencies that Jimmy has because he wants to touch everything that he sees. Watch out! I am very happy because he is finally sleeping through the night. Yeah!
