Last weekend I had the opportunity to finally visit Palmyra for the first time. Ever since we moved to Ohio I have been telling Jim the we need to go to Palmyra while we are living so close. Well time went by and we didn't go and then we had Luke and that put a halt to any plans that we would have made because of all of his surgeries, so I was feeling kind of down about it. I guess it was on my mind lately because the youth were going to have youth conference there this year. Well, as it so happened, our ward needed a chaperone and I immediately called Jim as soon as I found out to see if he could take the time off of work and he said that he could, so I finally got my wish to visit Palmyra. It was such an amazing trip. I love the feeling that is there in that sacred place. The Palmyra temple was one of the most beautiful places that I have ever seen. I didn't get a chance to go outside but I got to walk around the grounds. There is a window that was left transparent at the request of President Hinkley which overlooks the sacred grove. I think one of my favorite moments of the whole trip was to be able to stand there in front of that window and just look out over the sacred grove. I stood there for quite a while just taking it all in. Here I was, standing and looking out over the place where everything started almost 200 years ago with a humble question from a 14 year old boy. And behind me stood the symbol of everything that has come to pass since then. It is amazing to think of the progress the church has made since then. I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude that I have been blessed with the gospel. On the last day of the trip we got to spend an hour in the sacred grove for some alone time. I loved that! There was such a peaceful feeling in the grove and it was just nice to be alone with my thoughts for a while in such a sacred place. The trip was wonderful! It was definitely a much needed break for me to recharge my batteries. I missed my boys so much! It was nice to get back to Jim and the innocence of my children after spending 3 days with 75 teenagers. The youth were great but I just realized that I really need to enjoy this time with my kids while it lasts because it doesn't last forever. They grow up so fast! And Jim was so great to take the time off work and take care of the kids. He is such a great husband and dad. We are so lucky to have him! Thanks Jim :)
